What is the destiny of quilts after they are no longer wanted? Do you ever wonder what will happen to your handmade quilts after you’re gone? Or, for that matter, what will happen to all your precious belongings? For example, perhaps you have a family heirloom that once belonged to your grandmother or great-grandmother. For example, the quilt in the above photo was handmade by my husband’s great-grandmother. We are blessed to have it.
Perhaps this is a morbid topic. However, I think that as we grow older, we tend to think about these things. Often, when speaking about this with friends, they are all in agreement. The younger generation has no real interest in our collectibles. They have a different lifestyle and wouldn’t have room to put them. Without a doubt, they would definitely not want to spend time dusting china figurines! Consequently, what will happen to our prized possessions?Â
In particular, if you are a quilter, you might be worried about their destiny. You would hope your handmade quilts live on for generations to come. Â
So what can you do about it? Read this essay by J. R. Armstrong about the destiny of quilts for some ideas and suggestions. Â
