World AIDS Day, 1 December, is an international day to raise awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease. To illustrate the importance of this awareness, the observance of World AIDS Day has been ongoing since 1988. Â
Quilters often dedicate themselves to honouring or remembering people or events by creating a special quilt. Likewise, this practice is the foundation for the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt. This tremendous never-ending project began in 1987 and continues to this day. In fact, anyone can become involved.
Read about the history of the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt in this article from Quilting Daily. In addition, read about how you, too, can become involved. Â
