The Story of Red Bridge Quilts—

My name is Julie, and I have been quilting since 1986.  In the early years of my quilting journey, I made handmade quilts for myself and my family and friends. 

I have lived in many countries over the past 40 years and took the opportunity to join local quilt groups.  I also participated in many quilt workshops and classes wherever I lived. These wonderful opportunities sharpened my skills and allowed me to pick up helpful tips and  learn different quilting styles.

Many years into my quilting journey, I became involved in a fund-raising project for charity whilst living in the UK.  Of course, I turned to my quilting skills for this project!  I soon realised that I  thoroughly enjoyed being in constant “quilting mode”.   So when the project finished in 2016, I decided to turn my efforts towards launching a small quilting business.  

What Happened Next 

In the beginning, I sold my handmade patchwork quilts at local craft fairs.  In addition, I began holding two craft fairs per year at my home to raise money for charity.  Many other crafters were invited to participate.  We always had such a great time for a good cause.  I also set up my own website for online business and called it A Quilting Bee.

After my husband retired, we moved to County Galway, Ireland.  I joined the Western Branch of the Irish Patchwork Society and, as a matter of fact, even served as the Branch Secretary. 

I needed a name change for my business to go with its new location.  Therefore, A Quilting Bee became Red Bridge Quilts.  I was now making handmade patchwork quilts in the west of Ireland.
